Like you and your fiance(e), we also recently got engaged! Now in the midst of planning our wedding and having photographed and filmed so many weddings ourselves, we fully understand how planning your big day can be both exciting and overwhelming at the same time!

If you are like us, you probably worry about whether your guests will have fun, whether the vendors will deliver, or will it rain? You will worry about how "natural" you look in your photos or whether you are smiling "correctly" for your video. These are only some of the things that, like you, make us nervous about our wedding day. 

For these reasons, it is our ultimate goal to make your wedding as carefree as possible. We believe that your comfort is paramount in creating fantastic wedding photographs and films. As your photographer and cinematographer, we will be the ones who will worry about how flattering the light is on you, where your photos and film will be taken, how relaxed and genuine you look. For you, we will capture the tears and laughter, your first kiss, and your killer dance moves. We will do a coffee-run if its means you and the people around you will have the energy to create amazing images in your magical day. We will be your biggest advocate.

My love for photographer began with my brief time as an art student at the University of Toronto. While studying painting, photography was initially a way to create quick and gratifying pieces of art. After having photographed cultural weddings for a couple years as a second photographer, I officially launched a wedding photography business under SheenPhotos in 2015. With our expansion to cinematography, I am happy to retire that name, to be replaced with Mocha Tree Studios. When not photographing weddings, I love to play volleyball, board games, travelling, and hanging out with Michael and our adorable corgi, Drogo.

My foray into cinematography began with my love for creating sport videos and highlight reels as a way for my friends and I to analyze our badminton and volleyball games! After Sheen launched SheenPhotos, I joined as a second photographer and videographer. Our films are an extension of our passion for documenting scenes of your lives. I strive to create wedding veideos that are emotionally raw and cinematically stunning where all your happiest moments are captured and told excitingly and beautifully. Like Sheen, I am crazy about our mischievous dog, Drogo, and enjoy playing volleyball and badminton.

Photography has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Through out my years being a family, maternity and boudoir photographer, I began to dabble in weddings after a couple friends asked me to photograph their special day.  I love LOVE! So capturing the essence of a couple, both their individuality and togetherness, as well as their love story brings me great joy as a photographer. When I’m not photographing weddings, I can usually be found snuggling my beautiful fat cat Charlie, travelling and exploring what the city has to offer, and /or indulging in an amazing book while sipping on my third ( or forth) cup of coffee.

F.a.q. For Photography

Do you take detail photos and traditional family portraits? 

Absolutely! We are drawn to photographs that showcase our couples' intimate moments, which is why they are displayed so prominently on our website. However, we also recognise that family is important and family portraits should be as important as the couple's wedding portraits. We are experienced at being fully involved in making all of your relatives comfortable and at ease during the portrait time. We will also advise you on the best time and location during your wedding day!

What kind of clients are we ideal for?

We are perfect for brides and groom who care about telling their wedding stories through photographs and film. 

A quick story:  when my (Sheen's) parents got married, it was a very low-key, informal wedding. They were surrounded by a few friends and family, but they did not have a wedding photographer - or anyone with a camera for that matter! They are now in their 30th year of marriage, and they've had many photos together taken since then, but none from that special day on which so much of their lives began. 

How much coverage do you recommend?

We want to tell your whole story and not just parts of it. Ideally, we recommend a coverage for the entire day to capture every single moment. At the very minimum, we recommend at least one hour at the tail-end of the bride and groom getting ready, and at least one hour into the dance party to have a cohesive and full set of memories to tell the story of your big day! Having a second photographer will also ensure that we do not miss a single moment!

How long does it take to receive our photographs?

It depends on the season. During the winter months, we usually have the photos ready within two weeks. During peak season, spring and summer, we deliver photographs within four weeks through an online gallery where you can download the images directly and share them with friends and family and through a custom USB.

What is the client portal?

The client portal is a secure client page that contains every piece of information we have about your wedding. You will receive a login upon booking, and in the client portal, you will find the signed copy of your contract; wedding day itineraries, questionnaires, and engagement session recommendations. After your wedding, the portal will also have your private online gallery where you can download your images or order prints and albums! The client portal ensures that we are all on the same page and that there is a constant stream of communication in the year or months leading up to your wedding day!

How would you describe your photography style?

We embrace dramatic lighting, dynamic shadows, and active movements. These are the three core qualities that define both our photography and videography work. We are not light and airy. To achieve our style, we like to photograph and film our couples in and surrounded by nature. Forests and trees create the best lighting and hills, and cliffs can give us height! 

For family wedding portraits and details (rings, bouquets, shoes, etc), we combine traditional composition and poses to our artistic style to ensure that your photos remain timeless. Throughout the day, and especially with a second photographer, we embrace candid moments and raw emotions. We find that these are easily among the most treasured photos of our couples. 

How would you describe your working style?

We firmly believe that a happy and comfortable bride and groom make  the best wedding photos. So, know that the moment you sign us on as your photographer (videographers), we will be there as your biggest advocates. We want you to look at your wedding photos many years from now and remember nothing but fun and happy memories. This, of course, means making sure that you receive excellent service before, during, and after your special day.

Do you do engagement sessions?

All wedding collections include engagement sessions. We highly recommend it for us to get to know each other before your big day. You can read the benefits of the engagement sessions here!

How many photographs will we receive?

The number of photos you receive will depend on the package you choose. On average, a full day coverage with two photographers will yield 800 edited images! We always say that the more things are happening, the more photos you will receive!

How will we receive our wedding photographs?

You will get your photos delivered via a secured digital gallery in our client portal where you can download the images directly to your computer and share them with friends and family right away and you will receive them via mail or pick-up in a custom USB.

How far in advance do you book?

Our couples typically book a year in advance, though it does vary. If you want a particular season or date, make sure to book in advance, so you are not left disappointed!

Where are you based and are you willing to travel?

We are located in Ottawa, Ontario. Yes, we are also willing to travel!

What kind of equipment do you use and do you have backup equipment?

We shoot exclusively with Nikon professional gear, including full-frame bodies, fast primes, professional zooms and a variety of lighting equipment both on and off camera. Because weddings are once in a lifetime events, we do not want to miss a single second of it. So, we have a backup for everything: camera bodies, lenses, memory cards, batteries, flashes, lighting accessories, you name it – we have it covered, protected by our trusty and hard Pelican case. 

 

 
 

F.A.Q. For Videography

What is the 30 second - 1 minute engagement teaser?

The engagement teaser is a quick film to capture you as a couple in a setting outside of your wedding day. It also gives us a chance to work together and you can even do this at the same time with your wedding photographer to ensure your special day goes smoothly. You can even play this during your wedding day for your guests! It also gives you some variety as we encourage my couples to do their engagement in a different season from their wedding.

What is the 15-20 minute documentary film?

The documentary film is a full capture of everything throughout the day with multiple cameras and angles with audio. It will be edited into a single video with some music and the most important parts of the audio (ceremony, speeches, reading of cards). Professionally shot and edited, this is the perfect full-on wedding experience in a short documentary film format. This is perfect for showing future kids or grandkids!

What type of cameras, drone, and, equipment do you use?

We use professional Nikon DSLR full frame cameras, off camera lighting, motorized gimbal stabilizers, DJI phantom 4 HD drone, high speed memory cards, monopods, tripods, high quality audio microphones, lav mics, and all accessories needed to properly capture your perfect wedding. We spare no expense when getting the proper equipment as this will reliably get the best quality.

Do you travel?

We love travelling and would love to shoot your destination or out of town weddings! Please include this in your communication with us and we'd be happy to discuss how it would fit into our packages!

Does the raw footage include the full ceremony and reception?

Yes, we capture the whole ceremony on multiple cameras and audio to ensure no moment is missed. We also have multiple audio recordings as backup and that is all included in our hard drive.
 

What is the 5-7 minute cinematic film trailer?

The cinematic film trailer is a beautiful short video to highlight all of the special moments of your big day from getting ready, the ceremony, speeches, and the after party. Couples love to watch over the best parts of their wedding day and to share with family and friends. The trailer will be non-linear and have edits and professional cuts and include songs and audio sound bites. We strive to create a unique and stunning film where you are the movie stars to evoke feelings of love, excitement, and fun!

Who chooses the music for the cinematic film trailer?

All music we use in our videos are legally obtained and we purchase licenses for every song. Typically our cinematic film trailer includes 2-3 songs which is all included in our wedding packages. Top 40 artists and songs are usually not license-able and we think lesser artists will create a unique and timeless piece of art. 

We typically ask questions during the consultation and follow up meetings to determine your style and preferences. From there, we will personally curate songs we think will fit your style and match your wedding day's energy and atmosphere. If you do have some pieces that are royalty-free, feel free to send them and we can work it into one of the videos. We do ask you to give at least 3 songs so we have some variety to choose from. 

How long does it take to deliver the videos?

We typically take 3-4 weeks to deliver the engagement teaser, 8-12 weeks for the cinematic trailer, and 12-14 weeks for the documentary film. All videos will be shared on Youtube immediately after completion to allow you to view and share with friends and family.
